What’s your greatest obstacle to exercise?
Laziness. Seriously, it’s easy to say, “I’m not doing this today.” And some days, I don’t. Sometimes just the word exercise is intimidating. If I hit a wall, I don’t exercise that day. And I don’t feel guilty about it.

Do you ever push yourself?
Yes. I do 30 minutes on the treadmill – no more. I’ll set the timer and do what I can. Sometime it’s the l-o-n-g-e-s-t 30 minutes of my life, but I always feel better afterward.

What have you learned from arthritis?

Arthritis should be taken seriously – it’s not just aches and pains. It’s life altering, and you have to wake up every day and say, “I’m not going to go by arthritis’ agenda today.” My mom’s advice was always, “Don’t let someone tell you what you can’t do. If you give up, then others will let you.”
