How Do You Take Your Botanicals?

Tea is one of several ways botanicals are sold. Also called an infusion, tea is made by adding boiling water to fresh or dried plant products – stems, leaves or flowers, usually – and steeping them to release their active ingredients.

Tea isn’t the only way that botanicals and herbs can be used. In this guide, you’ll find some of these forms listed under “Forms and Dosages”:

Concoctions and Decoctions

Tea requires just a few minutes of steeping but some plant products require a little more time for their active ingredients to be released. A concoction is simply a mixture of herbal ingredients that can be prepared in a variety of ways, usually with heat. When the heating method is boiling, the mixture – usually of roots, bark or berries – is called a decoction.

Liquids, Extracts and Tinctures

Botanicals are sold in liquid forms, such as oils, extract-containing drinks, syrups and tinctures. Tinctures are preparations made with alcohol and water. Extracts can be made with many different liquids (solvents), and that liquid is often evaporated to make a dry extract. Dry extracts are put into capsules and tablets. Tinctures and extracts are usually more concentrated than teas. When looking at the recommended dose, it is important to notice the form of the product. For example, a dose might be three cups of tea per day or one to three teaspoons tincture per day.

Fresh or Dried Herbs

Herbs can be grown at home or purchased fresh-cut at a market. Air-dried, freeze-dried or fresh, herbs can be used in cooking or for making tea.

I have arthritis in my knees. I do not take any prescription drugs for it. Are there any supplements that would eliminate pain. I have had orthoscopic surgery on both knees 11 years ago.

PS...
In regards to the questions I Saw about the mom asking about her son that has JRA, I believe the best thing for him to try would be Sulfurzyme, Pan Away and Peppermint.

I think my symptoms match his very closely in one way and about 10 days after taking the sulfurzyme, I noticed a big change in my joint pain. If he is not fatigued, I don't think he needs to take Ninga Red. I am extremely fatigued because of other conditions, and that is what Ninga red helps me with.

Hi All,
I have what the doctors first called Rupus (RA/Lupus) and now call AOSD (Adult Onset Stills Disease which is Basically JRA). I am now 46, but the doctors say I have had it for a long time. I first got really sick about 10 years ago, but I had many, many surgeries (25+) for other problems we now know was related to this. I have fibro, sjogrens, and other dx's too.
I have finally been able to lower my pred, and pain meds by going to a Reflexologist (accupuncture without the needles). I also combined this with the use of Food grade Oils (specifically Young Living - I am not a part of Young Living, they just have the best Food grade oils). I started slowly, about six months ago. I still am sick, but not always in bed sick. I now have a couple of hours when I can do things out of bed, which after three years is a miracle to me.

I started with Orange and Lemon oil. It helps detox the drugs we take from our liver, etc. I take 3-4 drops in 16 ounces of water a day. Along with that, I take their Sulfurzyme (MSM) product, and Ninja Red product (like Acai but stronger). I also use Peppermint and Pan Away on my joints for pain. They all seem to help in different ways. But I can feel myself slowly get stronger. I have been able to lower my pred and drastically lower my pain meds. But it will be slow for me, since I have been basically bed ridden for years. However, I am extremely happy with the progress I have made. The doctors don't ever expect me to have a full remission. Whatever happens, I accept, I know that my Life has a purpose and that everything will be OK.

But I did feel that you should all know about these things... Reflexology is amazing and helps. As does they Young Living Oils.

My kid which is 12year old has a JRA, and the medication he takes given by her Pediatric rheumatologist are methothrexate, prednizone and folic acid, but I'm concern because prednizone is a steroid and he is taking it for almost a year, although with different mg.

Are these medicines really help eliminate the disease? because sometimes, he's always complaining about the pain of his joints, especially on his arms.

Thank you and hope you can advise us on what to do regarding this matter.
