In most analgesics the inactive ingredents have been tested to document side effects as well as effectiveness of the main ingredient.
I was taking everything I could find for fatigue nd lack of pain relief when I started
with essential fatty acids like that found in Black Current Seed Oil.After ten years of paim studies and various other pain remedies there seems to be a slight to moderate improvement in my pain levels and the general alleviation of depression and complacencey. There is a given dosage aount varying from condition to different symptoms, though I am just at one capsule once daily because of my daily caffeine intake to combat the sluggishness and the drowsiness in the morning. I feel my immune system is getting bolstered and the fluidity of movement has been enhanced by only a thousand milligrams at the evening meal. I do think I will increase the doseage by one five hundred mg after the noon meal once I get a little less dependant on the stimulant to keep me alert. I hope that I may find I can slack off my pain meds soon as the feeling leads me to exercising more often.I like yoga and just have to start getting up early enough to practice some meditation and do some stretches. Continually hurting became so debilitating that I could hardly even focus on anything else.God is a real load lifter when I go to Him in prayer.

The friends I am staying with--one of them has ankylosing spondylitis--would black currant seed oil be beneficial or harmful to him and does it sell as an oil--not in a softgel?

Black currant seed oil is made from black currant seeds. As long as you get a straight black currant seed oil from a reputable manufacturer, and you look at the ingredients to insure that BCO is all that is in it, there is no issue with fish.

Judy,

Omega 6 is one of the many essential fatty acids. I am not certain if there is any fish oil in this, however, typically it is the omega 3 series that is fish sourced. EPA and DHA are the long-chain fatty acids that are typically associated with health benefits.

Be careful when taken fish or shell fish sourced oils. You may have a reaction. However, the more concentrated the oil, the less likely there will be proteins present. Highly refined and concentrated products have been refined to a point that there is little protein present. A prescription product Lovaza, EPA 465, DHA 375, with a few other omega 3's very little omega 6, and vitamin E oil as a stabilizer has a caution statement with folks with fish allergies. Typically fish allergies are due to the protein in the fish. Lovaza has had the protein removed. Lovaza is used in the United States for triglycerides over 500. In europe it has other indications regarding cardivascular health.

BCSO has a moderate immune-enhancing effect attributable to its ability to reduce prostaglandin E2 production. This was the conclusion from a study conducted with healthy elderly subjects.
As we age the balance is tipped in favour of E2 and inflammation with a corresponding decrease in t-cell mediated immunity

The effects of BCSO then, are very positive with respect to arthritis

Black current seed oil has GLA which is an omega 6 fatty acid and can have a anti-inflammatory effect in the body. The Black Current seed oil I use has 2-3 times the GLA that evening primrose has. Regardless, if it increases the immune response, it may be harmful for certain types autoimmune arthritides such a rheumatoid arthritis. In RA, the body's immune system pretty much attacks the joints so increasing immune response may not be the best bet. Hope this helps.
