BCSO has a moderate immune-enhancing effect attributable to its ability to reduce prostaglandin E2 production. This was the conclusion from a study conducted with healthy elderly subjects.
As we age the balance is tipped in favour of E2 and inflammation with a corresponding decrease in t-cell mediated immunity

The effects of BCSO then, are very positive with respect to arthritis

Black current seed oil has GLA which is an omega 6 fatty acid and can have a anti-inflammatory effect in the body. The Black Current seed oil I use has 2-3 times the GLA that evening primrose has. Regardless, if it increases the immune response, it may be harmful for certain types autoimmune arthritides such a rheumatoid arthritis. In RA, the body's immune system pretty much attacks the joints so increasing immune response may not be the best bet. Hope this helps.
