Exercises to Strengthen the Back and Relieve Pain

One of the best things you can do for your back – and your overall health and well-being – is to be physically active. A regular and varied exercise program can ease pain and stiffness, strengthen muscles and bones, burn calories, improve flexibility, increase energy, improve sleep, boost your mood, increase your sense of well-being and reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease and certain cancers. If your back is so stiff or painful that you can hardly imagine exercising, speak to your doctor or physical therapist about exercises that might be appropriate for you. Then start slowly, set small goals and build from there. You also can start with these back exercises from Arthritis Today.

I've suffered from Neck & Back pain arthritis over 30 years also use lipitor . I find that swimming & bike riding at least 30 min a every day relieves the pain. Also, dry heat is helpful before bedtime!

I had the same problems with statins. I'm using a high dose of niacin instead and they have helped lower my cholesterol, better than the statins were.

My arthritis has been a gradual thing for many years but it seems these last six months in Illinois with hot, humid weather has exaserbated it so much. Is that possible as I spent the previous six months in Arizona and had little or no pain at all during all that time. Also dealing with side effects from the statin drugs I'm trying to take for cholestoral. They worsen the pain in both joints and muscles. Any tips for what I could take in place of the statins!!!!
