I have been on Placquenil for a few years. However , I kept questioning myself about my sugar crashes. Sugar actually makes me fall asleep. My son has type 11 diabetes at age 25.....He is so visual about this and stresses about it being too high / too low. He works very hard, of course as we humans tend to slip every now and then, stresses us to no end.
this is such an interesting article.
which comes first the chicken or the egg????
osteoporosis comes osteoarthritis, then comes RA then comes diabetes??? or reverse??anyway they are all autoimmune disorders....

Isn't it nice to have some good news along this RA path? I've been on Plaquenil for 6-7 years and love it when the occassional good news comes my way!

I have been taking Plaquenil and Methotraxate for several years, apparently with some success. However, I recently developed psoriasis and my doctor wants to replace the Plaquenil with Enbrel.

I have heard that prolonged use of Plaquenil
can cause Psoriasis. Is this true?

This is nice news. I have been on hydroxychloroquine for about 5 yrs now for treatment of my RA. Type 2 Diabetes is very common in my family, if there is a chance that I can escape from getting Type 2 Diabetes due to my intake of the antimalarial drug, then I'm ok with it!

My doctor tells me I have degenerative arthritis and that 3 of my disks are totally degenerated. I know that I am in a lot of pain and nothing seems to help . Can you explain the degenerative arthritis more clearly and recommend some type of treatment.

This is very interesting. It has been suggested that my immunesystem was triggered by my attack of malaria, and my treatment with Fansadar due to resistance to malarial mutant strains. I have insulin resistance that does not respond well to metformin, and am seeking more info and a doctior who understands this.

my wife too found antimalrial drug helpful in RA. It has been effective to reduce the pain and swelling but not fully cure it.

I am a type 2 diabetic for the last ten years or more who has worked hard to control the diabetes relatively effectively. Having recenlty become an RA patient and begun taking Hydxychloroquine I have noticed a tendency for my sugar to drop to exteremly low levels compared to previous numbers. I have recently gotten myself in low blood sugar situations (MID 60'S), which almost never happened before. This is astounding news and something I plan to discuss with both my RA and my diabetes physicians at my next visit.
