Finding a Doctor for Fibromyalgia

What kind of doctor should I see for fibromyalgia?

The best fibromyalgia doctor is a rheumatologist, a physician who specializes in treating people with fibromyalgia and related diseases. If possible, you’ll want to find a rheumatologist with a special interest in the condition.

Before selecting a doctor or fibromyalgia clinic from the phone book or a list from your insurance company, ask friends with the condition if they can recommend their fibromyalgia doctors. Ask your primary care physician to recommend a specialist, or check with your local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.  If you get the names of several fibromyalgia doctors, you may want to interview a few to determine their knowledge of, interest in and attitude toward fibromyalgia.

In August 09 I was diagnosed with fibromyaglia, which I had heard of once.
I had a car accident five years ago, and suffered a lot of body pain after all then my one foot became so sore I couldnt walk. I have double arthritis and am 68. Now what?
The pain meds for FM I cant tolerate: Neurotin is one. I tried magnesium last night and it worked in getting me to sleep.
But this FM seems to go back, go deep, and I want to find the right doc who understands.

To: Inez, The second knee is much easier because you know what to expect. I had my knees done 5 years apart and the newer technology is amazing. I was able to work my 2nd knee much easier. So I have full use of the right knee and I can even kneel on it alittle to look under the bed. Go for it it will change your life. I had Osteo diagnosed 23 and Fibro about 25 years ago. But looking back I have probably had Fibro since high school. Lots of pain everyday.
Right now I'm looking for a new Doctor now for the Fibro. I have had both knees replaced, and 2 back surgeries because of the arthritis. I am now thinking of having my stomack tied for loss weight. I now weigh 240 not the highest I have ever been but with diet and exercise I don't lose much. I'm hoping it helps. What do yhou think?

I have fibro, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis since I was a 38(confirned by a bone biopsy that I took a certain type of antibiotics for a certain # of days prior to the biopsy) last week I am told that a bone density done in a new office (I had never had one there before}that I don't have osteoporosis now, I have osteopenia. (Is this possible?) My fuzzy memory and my pains are getting worst. My knees don't want to work its not so much pain, it's just that they seem to not have any strength. My back hurts so much. I feel that I am at least 90, but I am only 58. Please give me advice.

I can sympathy with all of you with your FMS.
I was diagnosed April 1, 2000. I had it for years and told I was imagined it, etc. It was a sad day, but a good one too when I found out what was wrong with me. I just wish there was more to do to help us.
I now also have arthritis. Most of my joints. I had partial knee replacement last Dec. It hurts worst. So will not do the left.
Good Luck and God Bless

I was diagnosed with fibromayalgia yesterday. After reading the info the docor gave me, I was convinced that this is what has been bothering me for years. I still don't understand much about it, most of all, WHY ME??? But at least I have a diagnoses after all this time. I just quit my job last week because I couldn't keep up and ended up in the E.R. several times a month. Does anyone else have problems with not being able to work?

I used to have daily headaches for years! As soon as my anemia was resolved my headaches went away. I used to blame my headaches on hormone fluctuations, low blood sugar tension etc...but I really believe it was a result of my iron deficiency it is worth checking it out
