Mother's Day

How will you celebrate?

By Annette Beach

Whether it’s your mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, daughter, niece, in-law or special friend, we all have somebody in our life who’s made a difference! There’s that special female who stands out. For some, you are fortunate to have multiple females in your life.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10. How will you acknowledge that special person?

I think the most popular gifts are cards and flowers. For many, it’s sharing a meal. Have you ever received a picture drawn by a child? Can it get any better than that? An occasion expressed through the imagination and creativity of a child is one of the greatest gifts ever!

My son has always made Mother’s Day special. Recently I found some of his homemade cards tucked away in a drawer. As I looked over them, I chuckled, smiled and reminisced about the days of his youth.

One of the cards he made equaled 12 pieces of paper taped together. At first blush, it looked like a banner, but then I noticed the fold mark making it more like a card. The outside read, “Happy Mother’s Day”. On the inside he wrote a letter telling me what he had planned for the day and announcing that he made breakfast (cereal, milk, baby carrots and grapes). There were many spelling errors and some of the letters were backward, but I still knew what he meant. He signed it, “I love you (‘love’ was written nine times). Love, Matt”.

Yes, baby carrots for breakfast … that’s my boy!!!

There are a number of women in my life who deserve recognition. Not all of them are mothers, but they are all loving and caring individuals. To them and to all of you mothers who read my blog, I wish you a happy and memorable Mother’s Day! May you have baby carrots, too.

Who is the person or people you will send happy wishes to on Sunday? What are some of the ways you celebrate? Do you have family traditions?

I got my mom Arava - she was a little upset that I didn't also get her flowers, but it went over pretty well.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I just wanted to wish all the lovely mothers, mamas, mommies a beautiful and special day.
I am spending my day with my youngest going to a movie (maybe Star Trek..hehe)yes, my choice. I am dropping off some flowers and a card to my mother. And this evening my oldest with be over after work to be with me and bring gifts:)
I do agree with Jim, I love their presence more than gifts. Mother's Day is about so much more.

I doubt there are many mothers who would trade a card or present for just spending time with their child on that day. I can't think of too many Mothers Days I have ever missed with my Mom, I feel very lucky to live close and have a great relationship with my Mom. I know all are not as fortunate for a variety of reasons.

My daughter and I don't really have any traditions, but the best thing to do on Mother's Day, for me, is to spend time with the gift that God gave to me 17 years ago.

And I like spending time with my own mother, if able, on Mother's Day or at least that weekend.
