Wedding Bloopers and Blunders

By Annette Beach

On Saturday, I went to a wedding and it was one of the nicest I’ve ever attended.

The ceremony started with the ring bearer running down the aisle to his mommy who was a bridesmaid. He was followed by two flower girls, each walking, hopping and skipping at her own pace. When the minister asked the bride and groom to repeat their vows, the bride’s voice cracked and she paused. Before continuing, she apologized and explained to everyone that her daughter was married a few weeks before and she was still emotional. Then, about halfway through the ceremony, someone accidentally hit a button and “The Wedding March” began to play all over again.

Throughout the ceremony, there were interruptions and bloopers and, in between the tears of joy, there was laughter from everyone, including the bride and groom. They did not get upset or seem bothered by any of it. To them, this day was about two people becoming one. Regardless of what happened during the ceremony, their focus was on each other and being pronounced husband and wife.

I am very impressed with this young couple and their promises to each other. On their wedding day, they demonstrated maturity and going with the flow. They did not have expectations of a perfect wedding, but I think if you ask them, they’d tell you their wedding was perfect.

Have you been to a wedding with bloopers or interruptions? What’s the funniest or worst experience you’ve had at a wedding?

I got married a little over a year ago and my husband and I still have not gone on a honeymoon. We both work at Narconon drug rehab. I work 5 days a week and he works 6 days a week with very little vacation. Any suggestions on where we could go for an extended weekend trip for our honeymoon that is romantic? We should probably go soon or we won't go at all.

I went to the wedding of a dear friend's daughter. The groom was in charge of the recessional music. The bride had no clue what it was going to be. As the minister pronounced them husband and wife, there was a pause and then James Brown's I Feel Good came on and they literally danced up the aisle. It was grand!!

The last wedding I went to was for my nephew, who married a lady a few years older than him and she has two children. It wasn't a blooper, in fact it was quite lovely, because the boys were asked if they accepted my nephew and they basically all married him.

At the end of the wedding, instead of standing at the back and shaking hands, the newlyweds stood by each pew and let the guests leave. When he got to the pew where my mom was (his grandma), he bursts out in tears. You see, my mom is his second mom since my sister was 16 years old when she had her son. When he saw my mom, I guess he just couldn't hold it in anymore and started crying. Needless to say, we all cried! :)

I went to a wedding which was the biggest social event of my life. It was huge! The bride and groom left for their honeymoon. A few days later, the bride called her parents saying she wanted to come home. When they got home, they got a divorce. The marriage didn't last a week and they kept the wedding gifts.

I was once at a wedding at a very old church (without air conditioning) in the middle of July. It was so hot that my sister -- one of the junior bridesmaids -- fainted right in the middle of mass! The priest looked up over the top of his glasses, but kept on going as she was ushered outside by my mom. The rest of us, standing there sweating in our hoop skirts and layers of lace and taffeta weren't worried...only jealous that she got to leave!
