Do you believe in miracles – an event credited to divine intervention? Or do you justify happenings as accidental, chance or coincidental?
Miracles have been described as perceptible interruptions of the laws of nature. But in most cases are considered as any event that is the result of an action by a higher power.
It is said, miracles are contrary to experience. The credibility of a miracle is established by the evidence of the interpretation on the part of those who are witnesses to such events and to others by their testimony. Would you agree?
I believe in miracles – some I’ve witnessed firsthand, while others are solely based on testimony or the words of others. When an occurrence is beyond the course of nature and the power of man, in my opinion, it can only be described as the presence and involvement of a higher hand.
At the top of my list is the miracle of birth and life itself! Whether lived by humans, the animal kingdom or plants – Wow! Followed by our surroundings, such as the universe, the majestic size of a mountain, the moon that only comes out in the evening, the flow of rivers and rise of tides.
Miracles are also linked to surviving natural disasters and terminal illnesses, beating the odds and dodging life-threatening circumstances, just to name a few. In some cases, coincidence can be perceived as miracles, causing debatable arguments. But again, it goes back to interpretation, testimony and personal beliefs.
I am constantly in awe and astonished by the events that happen in my life and in some cases, on a daily basis. Things far beyond my control – some massive in size, while others appear to be small, yet they’re just as satisfying. Miracles? Maybe, maybe not, but I choose to believe.
Although I am a survivor and I have beaten my share of odds, life continues to challenge me on many levels, triggering confusion and the need to justify in the midst of the unknown. Recently I bought a simple bookmark to serve as a reminder to be content with my life. It says, “When it doesn’t make sense to you, it makes sense to _______.” (I’ll let you fill in the blank.)
Do you acknowledge miracles as the possibility of a higher power intervening to control or reverse ordinary movements? If not ‘miracles,’ what do you call these wonder-causing events?
